Comedienne Kate McKinnon, a performer with the Upright Citizens Brigade, has just been hired as a featured player on 'Saturday Night Live.'

The 27-year-old also starred in the LOGO Network's 'Big Gay Sketch Show' between 2006 and 2009, joining the cast when she was still a senior at Columbia University. McKinnon will be 'SNL's' first every openly gay female performer.

'SNL' has been reportedly looking for more female cast members, with mainstay Kristen Wiig expected to leave the show after this season. Mckinnon will join the cast in time for the Sofia Vergara hosted episode on April 7th.

Featured players don't appear in as many sketches as repertory players, and get second billing during the show's opening credits. If the featured player distinguishes themselves, they are typically promoted to full cast member.

So will McKinnon eventually be able to make up the jump? Check out some of her sketch videos below and let us know if you think she has what it takes.
