Murray, Utah mayor Dan Snarr's distinguishing characteristic is his 18- inch handlebar mustache. While his unique facial hair may have helped get him elected to four straight terms, it's not a hit with his wife. April Snarr claims the waxed tips of her hubby's expansive lip sweater constantly poke and prod her, and says that she is sick of living with a "freak."

So being the consummate politician, Dan has left the future of his 'stache in the hands of the people of Murray.

During the city's annual Fourth of July parade, Murray residents were told they could decide the fate of the notorious soup strainer Roman Coliseum-style -- thumbs up or thumbs down.

The stunt was met with an enthusiastic response, but the vote was too close to call. As of press time, Murray officials are still reviewing videotape of the crowd.

Snarr held a similar save-it-or-shave-it vote in 2009 as a way to raise money for charity. Back then, residents paid a dollar to vote and the "shaves its" won 1,254 to 966.

The 62-year old has spent the last 31 months growing the handlebar 'stache back. Learn more about Snarr and his facial hair in the video below, and let us know if you think he should save it or shave it.
