The darkly comedic story of private-school kids behaving very badly was a surprise hit just before the millenium, helping to boost the careers of its three stars, Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon. It spawned a couple of (highly inferior) sequels too.
