You might not immediately recognize the name Eduard Khil, but if you are frequent visitor to the internet you've certainly seen his work.

Nicknamed 'Mr. Trololo,' a 1976 video of Khil singing the song 'I Am Glad, 'Cause I'm Finally Returning Back Home' on a Soviet TV show went viral in late 2009. What makes Khil's performance so unique is his unique singing style (he's singing sounds not words) and the fact that he appears to be high on a powerful and wondrous substance that never made it over to the Western world. Check out the original video below.

Sadly Khil, 77, suffered a stroke last week. He is in coma and is said to have suffered irreversible brain damage.

While Khil was a fairly big star in Soviet-era Russia, the song that made him internet famous 33 years later wasn't actually that big of a hit.

Nevertheless, Khil embraced his meme-dom, and in 2010 even sponsored a contest in which fans came up with words to his wordless sensation.

To celebrate the life of the man who unintentionally gave the internet so much we've attached videos of Christopher Waltz covering 'I Am Glad, 'Cause I'm Finally Returning Back Home' and a cartoon version of Khil doing his thing on 'Family Guy.'
