After the original trailer for 'The Dark Knight Rises' was released, the subject of Bane's voice was all anybody could talk about, mostly because no one could understand just what the maniacal terrorist was saying.

To fix this, director Christopher Nolan decided to tinker around with the mix and send Tom Hardy back to re-record his lines. Check out the YouTube video below and you can really hear the difference.

With all of this scrutiny around Bane's voice, people naturally wanted to know more about where it came from. In a recent interview with Vulture, Hardy admitted that he based his character on an obscure gypsy boxer named Bartley Gorman.

But we have to lean more towards BuzzFeed's assessment that there's a distinct, cartoon quality to Bane's tone. In fact, we'll take that one step further. Is it just us, or does Tom Hardy's Bane sound just like Apocalypse from 'X-Men: The Animated Series'?
