Shakira Was Attacked by a Sea Lion

Despite its name, the sea lion will rarely attack a human. However, as we all know, the hip-shaking musical superstar Shakira is not a typical human.  Perhaps that is why she sparked such a violent reaction from a sea lion over the weekend in Cape Town, South Africa.

Apparently Shakira became entranced by a bunch of adorable sea lions and seals. So she broke away from the group of tourists who were watching the ocean beasts from a respectful distance and attempted to pet one of the sea lions. Bad idea, as she writes in Facebook:

Suddenly, one of them jumped out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me. Everyone there screamed, including me. I was paralyzed by fear and couldn't move, I just kept eye contact with it while my brother "Super Tony" jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast.

Luckily, Shakira and her entourage escaped with just scratches and bruises. She believes she was attacked because the sea lion confused the reflection off of her Blackberry for a fish. Yup, blame it on your phone. We do that too, whenever we "didn't get" a message from our parents.
