Pumpkin Regatta Is a Most Unusual (And Real) Boat Race
"All a-gourd!"
More than three dozen teams showed up last weekend at Lake Pesaquid in Nova Scotia, Canada in the Windsor Pumpkin Regatta. Yes, it was a boat race in which the sailors crossed the water in giant pumpkins that each weighed about 600 pounds.
And here you were thinking giant pumpkins are nothing more than prize-winning stunts.
It marked the 18th year the event took place. The race is held in honor on Canadian Thanksgiving, or, as they presumably call it on that side of the border, Thanksgiving.
The regatta is quite the spectacle and this year even had a blind duo compete.
If you want a more grounded look at the event, here's a report from the 2015 edition. Now, don't even pretend you're not thinking of growing a giant pumpkin and trying to cross a body of water like you're Washington on the Delaware.
