1991's 'L.A. Story' was a labor of love for Steve Martin -- in addition to starring in the whimsical romantic comedy, he also wrote the hilarious script.

Mixing surreal gags with romantic misunderstandings, Martin's sun-dappled update of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' is a gentle satire of its titular city and all the movers and shakers who live within its temperate confines. It was also a vehicle for a lot of fun cameos.

See what the cast of 'L.A. Story' is up to these days below.

Then: Before playing "wacky" weatherman Harris K. Telemacher, Martin was on a roll with the comedy hits 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,' 'Parenthood' and 'My Blue Heaven.'

Now: Martin isn't acting as much as he used to, although he still regularly pops up on 'Saturday Night Live.' Instead he's been touring with his band Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers and released the album 'Love Has Come for You,' a collaboration with singer/songwriter Edie Brickell, in 2013.

Victoria Tennant, Sara McDowel

Then: One of the perks of writing and producing a film is that you can cast your wife as your love interest. That's what Martin did with Victoria Tennant, who he was married to from 1986 to 1994. Tennant had been known for her work in the miniseries 'War and Remembrance' and met Martin while starring opposite him in 1984's 'All Of Me.'

Now: Tennant will be in the upcoming films 'After the Fall' and 'Pasadena.'

Richard E. Grant, Roland Mackey

Then: Grant, who was a major star in England thanks to his cult comedy 'Withnail & I,' got to act all repressed and British as Sara's ex-husband. It was one of Grant's first big American roles, and was followed by high profile turns in 'Dracula' and 'The Age of Innocence.'

Now: The 56-year-old has a recurring role on 'Doctor Who.' He will soon star in the movie 'Dom Hemingway' alongside Jude Law and Emilia Clarke.

Marilu Henner, Trudi

Then: Henner played Harris' social climbing and unfaithful girlfriend Trudi in 'L.A. Story.' During that time period Henner was starring on 'Evening Shade,' although she was still probably best known for her run as Elaine O'Connor-Nardo on 'Taxi.'

Now: 2013 saw Henner having a May-December romance with Ashton Kutcher on 'Two and a Half Men.' During a 2010 '60 Minutes' interview, Henner disclosed that she has highly superior autobiographical memory, which means she is one of only a handful of people in the world who can remember every moment since early childhood.

Sarah Jessica Parker, SanDeE*

Then: Yes, that was a pre-Carrie Bradshaw Sarah Jessica Parker playing Harris' ditzy fling SanDeE*. Parker was also starring on the law drama 'Equal Justice' at the time, and was a veteran of the TV shows 'Square Pegs' and 'A Year in the Life.'

Now: Parker recently did an arc on 'Glee' and voiced Kira Supernova in the animated film 'Escape From Earth.' She has been married to actor Matthew Broderick since 1997 and they have three children.

Kevin Pollak, Frank Swan

Then: Pollak played Harris' unscrupulous agent Frank Swan, who's been sleeping with Trudi for years. Already a successful stand-up comic and impersonator, the film was a big step in Pollak's film career, which got a lot bigger in the coming years with roles in 'A Few Good Men,' 'Casino' and 'The Usual Suspects.'

Now: Pollak will be in the upcoming comedy 'Geezers.' He also hosts the popular iTunes podcast Talkin Walkin, in which he ruminates on life and interviews guests using only his famous Christopher Walken impersonation.

Sam McMurray, Morris Frost

Then: Movie reviewer Morris Frost, who didn't necessarily base his judgements on the actual quality of the film, was played by Sam McMurray. You probably recognized McMurray's face from guest appearances on shows like 'The Golden Girls,' 'Miami Vice' and 'Who's The Boss' and supporting roles in movies like 'Raising Arizona' and 'Christmas Vacation'

Now: Still quite the busy "that guy" actor, McMurray currently plays recurring character Pat Wexler on 'Scandal.'

Patrick Stewart, Maitre D'

Then: In a comedic turn, Stewart played the snooty and intrusive Maitre d' of the ultra hip eatery L'Idiot. The movie came out smack in the middle of Stewart's storied run as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on 'Star Trek: The Next Generation.'

Now: Stewart lends his classically trained voice to the animated shows 'American Dad,' 'Family Guy' and 'Robot Chicken.' An accomplished stage actor, Stewart recently played Shylock in a Royal Shakespeare Theater production of 'The Merchant of Venice.' He will reprise his Professor Charles Xavier role in 2014's 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.'

Rick Moranis, Grave Digger

Then: In an uncredited role, Rick Moranis played a wisecracking, Shakespeare-loving grave digger. The year before 'L.A. Story,' Moranis had co-starred with Martin in 'My Blue Heaven,' and was known for his roles in 'Ghostbusters,' 'Honey I Shrunk The Kids' and 'Spaceballs.'

Now: Moranis retired from acting in 1997 to care for his children after his wife passed away. But with a new comedy album coming out, and rumors that he might be willing to appear in 'Ghostbusters 3,' we could be at the beginning of a major Rick Moranis comeback.

Chevy Chase, Carlo Christopher

Then: Chevy Chase made a brief cameo as an actor who is disappointed in where he has been seated at 'L'Idiot.' In some ways the scene foreshadowed Chase's real life career, which was about to sag under the weight of flops like 'Memoirs of an Invisible Man' and 'Nothing But Trouble.'

Now: Chase had been undergoing a bit of a renaissance as Pierce Hawthorne on 'Community.' However the 69-year-old recently parted ways with the sitcom after an ugly and public falling out with the show's creator Dan Harmon.
