The MTV Movie Awards has always been somewhat of a marriage between popular music and popular cinema. But never so much than on Sunday, when Johnny Depp, arguably the biggest movie star in the world, took to the stage and jammed with band of the moment, The Black Keys.

Depp was at the award show to receive the MTV Generation Award, which was presented to him by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith. But before that happened, Depp grabbed his guitar and was joined on the stage by The Black Keys.

The 48-year old looked every bit the rock star when he played along with 'Gold on The Ceiling,' the second single off of the bluesy rockers' hit album 'El Camino.'

He also performed with the band on their song 'Lonely Boy.'

When that was done, Tyler and Perry presented Depp with the golden popcorn for the Generation Award. Depp was humble in his brief acceptance speech, calling the prize, which had previously been presented to Tom Cruise and Clint Eastwood, the "Get-Out-Of-The-Business Award."

"I just thank you very much," Depp continued. And it's an honor to be presented by these two legends, Steve and Joe, and these up and coming legends, [The Black Keys], so thank you very much." Watch Depp's gracious speech below.
