Then: Dustin Hoffman again showed off his knack for playing characters who stutter with his turn at mob henchmen Mumbles. Two years prior he had snagged his second Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of autistic savant Raymond Babbit in 'Rain Man.'

Now: Hoffman's race track-set TV series 'Luck' ran into some bad luck in 2012 and was cancelled in the wake of the on-set deaths of several horses.  The 75-year-old has two big-budget movies, 'The Contortionist's Handbook' and 'The Songs of Name,' on the horizon.
