The Oscars need a new host now that Eddie Murphy has dropped out to protest the firing of his friend Brett Ratner as the show's producer. Maybe Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of The Muppets can step in on Hollywood's biggest night?

The Facebook group "The Muppets Should Host The 2012 Oscars" is pushing the iconic puppets for the February 26 telecast, and respected industry blog Deadline believes the idea isn't as far-fetched as it may seem. They note,

Disney owns both the Muppets and ABC, which is the network that broadcasts the Oscars and just happens to have a new movie starring Jim Henson’s creations releasing on November 23rd. Can you smell PR stunt?"

If Kermit and company don't get the nod, other names being tossed about are former hosts Billy Crystal Whoopi Goldberg, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Martin, as well as perennial awards show emcee Neil Patrick Harris.

Do you want The Muppets to host the Oscars?
