RPatz and KStew Highest Grossing Romantic Couple in Film
With Valentine's Day fast approaching, romantic comedies are on the rise and love is in your face the air. In order to stay firmly ahead of the competition, Forbes has announced who is the highest grossing romantic couples in recent film history. Not surprisingly, it almost makes you glad you're single.
They looked at the most successful romance flicks of the past three years in order to conduct their study and not surprisingly, both 'Twilight' and Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were the the highest earners. 'Twilight' earned $1.17 billion at the box office, and the off-screen romance between the two leads garnered interest in the film too.
Pattinson's female fanbase also helped another romantic film, 'Water For Elephants', earn $59 million in 2011. Thanks to Pattinson's chemistry with co-star Reese Witherspoon, the movie became a small hit in the eyes of Hollywood.
Other popular on-screen couples have Nicholas Sparks to thank -- this includes Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth in 'The Last Song,' Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling who both starred in 'The Lucky One,' and Amanda Seyfriend and Channing Tatum in 'Dear John.' Needless to say, any adaption of one of those sappy Nicholas Sparks novels will rocket an on-screen couple into box office fame.
Surprisingly, seemingly mis-matched couples such as Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, plus Steve Carell/Julienne Moore and Jennifer Aniston/Adam Sandler were also big box office draws.
It seems like the big draws for romantic box office hits include the traditional romantic comedies, the cry-until-you-ruin-your-shirt Sparks adaptions, or supernatural romances. Since we can't wait until the sparkly vampire trend dies out, we'll gladly take the usual romantic box office movie fare this Valentine's Day!
