Dorothy’s Dress from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ Goes Up for Auction
Halloween is just around the corner. So if you don't have a costume yet and $500,000 to spare, we've got one that's sure to have everyone at your party talking about you. That's also assuming that it's in your size.
The original costume that Judy Garland wore to play Dorothy Gale in the classic 1939 film 'The Wizard of Oz' is going up for auction to the highest bidder, according to NBC's The Today Show.
The blue gingham dress and white blouse is being sold by Julien's Auction House in Beverly Hills, California as part of their "Hollywood Legends" auction. The iconic outfit will go up for auction at an asking price of $200,000. Auction house officials expect it will fetch anywhere from $400,000 to $600,000 from interested buyers.
The auction will also include high priced memorabilia from other classic films. Bidders can compete for the riding jacket that Clark Gable wore while filming 'Gone with the Wind,' the walking staff and robe that Charlton Heston used to play Moses in Cecil B. DeMille's 'The Ten Commandments' and the bowler hat, cane and suit worn by silent film legend Charlie Chaplin. The auction will also offer props and costumes from several super heroes movies. They include Christopher Reeve's Superman outfit from 'Superman IV: The Quest for Peace' and Michael Keaton's Batman costume from 'Batman Returns.'
