Usually, you can judge a lot by a performer's look on 'America's Got Talent.' And when 19-year-old Andrew De Leon appeared on Tuesday's episode replete in silly Goth attire, nobody thought he'd give a stellar performance. But that's exactly what he did.

Contrary to what we all expected, De Leon performed an operatic soprano aria that blew the judges (and us) away. What's more, this was the first time that De Leon, who's self-taught, has ever performed in front of an audience. Previously, he's only sung alone in his bedroom.

According to De Leon, he's always felt like an outcast and music provides an outlet for him. "Growing up, I was alienated because I was never interested in athletics or what everybody else in my family was interested in," he said. "Singing was always an escape. It was always a comfort zone."

Not surprisingly, all three judges gave De Leon a thumbs up, allowing him to move on to the next round in Las Vegas.

"You've been hiding in your room all these years, but you never let the world see who you are or what you are," said Howie Mandel. "And it's not that you're good at anything, you are great."

What do you think? Did you enjoy De Leon's performance?
