See the Cast of ‘Clue’ Then and Now

Clue movie
Paramount

Way before ‘Battleship,’ one movie based on a classic board game really got things right.

In 1985, the movie version of ‘Clue’ was released, complete with an all-star comedy cast, clever writing and a riotous series of “alternate endings.” Sadly, the great Madeline Kahn passed away in 1999, but the rest of the gang are alive and kicking. See what they’re up to almost 30 years later below.

Then: Veteran actress Eileen Brennan was best known for her role as Captain Doreen Lewis in the film ‘Private Benjamin’ — a role she later reprised for the television series of the same name.

Now: Brennan’s resume is vast, but in recent years you may have seen her in shows like ’7th Heaven’ and ‘Will and Grace,’ or in the films ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ and ‘Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous.’ She has not appeared in a film or television series since 2009.

Tim Curry, Wadsworth

Then: British actors Rowan Atkinson and John Cleese were considered for the role of Wadsworth the butler before the honor went to Tim Curry, star of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show.’ Director Jonathan Lynn had known Curry since high school and personally asked him to join the cast.

Now: Curry is well-known for roles in ‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’ and ‘Congo.’ These days he sticks to voiceover work, providing his talents to ‘Young Justice’ and ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars.’

Christopher Lloyd, Professor Plum

Then: The former star of the beloved television series ‘Taxi,’ Christopher Lloyd gave us two outstanding and classic performances in 1985: Professor Plum in ‘Clue,’ and Doc Brown in ‘Back to the Future.’

Now: Lloyd went on to star in both ‘Addams Family’ movies as Uncle Fester, and his long and varied resume includes appearances on recent shows like ‘Psych,’ ‘Raising Hope’ and ‘Fringe.’ He frequently appears on stage, and played Azdak in ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’ at New York City’s Classic Stage Company in 2013.

Michael McKean, Mr. Green

Then: Known best for his role on ‘Laverne and Shirley’ as Squiggy’s friend Lenny, a character he created himself, McKean also starred in and co-wrote ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ the year before being cast in ‘Clue’ as Mr. Green.

Now: McKean has starred in several ensemble comedy films for writer/director Christopher Guest, including ‘A Mighty Wind’ and ‘Best in Show.’ He currently stars on Guest’s HBO comedy series ‘Family Tree.’ McKean is married to fellow actress Annette O’Toole.

Martin Mull, Colonel Mustard

Then: Before playing Colonel Mustard, Martin Mull starred in an episode of ‘Taxi’ alongside Christopher Lloyd back in 1979. Before becoming an actor, Mull was a painter and musician, and had opened for Randy Newman, Bruce Springsteen and Frank Zappa.

Now: Mull went on to play Roseanne’s gay boss on the sitcom ‘Roseanne,’ and in recent years has appeared on ‘Reno 911′ and ‘Psych.’ Though, ‘Arrested Development’ fans will know him as Gene Parmesan, a role he reprised in the Netflix-streamed season 4. (Ah! He got us again!)

Lesley Ann Warren, Miss Scarlet

Then: Accomplished singer, actress and Broadway star Lesley Ann Warren was known for roles in ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Victor Victoria.’ Carrie Fischer of ‘Star Wars’ fame was director Jonathan Lynn’s first choice for the role of Miss Scarlet, but when Fischer had to go to rehab just four days before filming, she was replaced by Warren.

Now: Warren had memorable performances in ’90s films ‘Pure Country,’ ‘Color of Night’ and ‘The Limey.’ Recently she’s had recurring roles on ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘In Plain Sight.’

Colleen Camp, Yvette

Then: An actress known for her sex appeal, Colleen Camp had appeared in ‘The Swinging Cheerleaders,’ ‘The Gumball Rally’ and ‘Valley Girl’ before nabbing the role of sexy French maid Yvette in ‘Clue.’

Now: Camp has never stopped acting, and some of her more high-profile credits include ‘Wayne’s World’ and ‘Last Action Hero.’ She had roles in recent films ‘A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III’ with Charlie Sheen, and ‘Cirque du Freak’ with John C. Reilly.

Jane Wiedlin, The Singing Telegram Girl

Then: Rhythm guitarist and singer for ’80s all-girl pop act The Go-Go’s, Jane Wiedlin dipped her toe in the acting waters with parts in ‘Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ and as the hilariously doomed singing telegram girl in ‘Clue.’

Now: Wiedlin still occasionally tours with The Go-Go’s, and has lent her vocal talents to ‘The New Batman Adventures’ and ‘Scooby-Doo.’ The singer and sometimes-actress is an advocate for animal rights and has worked with PETA since the late ’80s.
