“Giant” George isn’t just the tallest dog in the world. He is, as far as the Guinness Book of World Records is concerned, the tallest dog ever.

Standing four-feet tall at the shoulder, and seven-feet-three-inches on his hind legs, the Great Dane also weighs 230 pounds. That happens to be about 15 pounds less than he weighed earlier this year, but the six-year-old has been on a diet lately as he prepares for a book tour. That’s right -- the massive pooch is poised to be a literary star.

George’s owner David Nasser has written the memoir 'Giant George: Life with the World's Biggest Dog,’ which was released earlier this week.

In the book, Nasser explains that George was actually the runt of the litter. But it didn’t take long to realize he wasn’t going to stay that way.

At five months he still acted like a puppy, chasing his tail and playing games of fetch and tug-of-war with his favourite bit of rope,” explained Dave. But he was already the size of a fully-grown Labrador.”

According to Nasser, George is a gentle giant (just like Marmaduke), but his huge size and low bark has certainly put a fright into a delivery man or two (also like Marmaduke). See more photos and a video of the unique pooch below.
