For one moment, Noah Roberts was the big man on campus at East Carolina University.

Eight-year-old Noah, who is battling a brain tumor, got to play in the spring game for the ECU football team this past weekend, running for a 40-yard touchdown on the game’s last play in a scene that culminated with the crowd chanting his name and players picking him up on their shoulders in the end zone. It’s merely the latest instance of a child battling illness getting a chance to shine in the world of college sports.

Noah, who lives with his family about two-and-a-half hours away from campus in Wilmington, North Carolina, is a big fan of the football team. Plus, his older sister is a student there.

The football team has welcomed Noah into the program with open arms the last several years, letting him attend practices, visit the locker room and stand on the sidelines during games.

Pirates coach Ruffin McNeill said, “His mom told me, ‘Coach, you don’t know how much this means to us.’ I said, ‘You don’t know how much this means to us.'”

The day after his glorious showing on the gridiron, Noah and his family headed to Washington, DC for further treatment and testing. We wish him luck!
