Twitter turns nine years old on Saturday, so the social media site is ready to take a look back at how far it's come.

The microblogging site has put out a list of 10 breakthrough tweets. They range from serious to touching to amusing. Passed along in chronological order, included is the very first tweet, from Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, as well as a suggestion from a user to use hashtags to denote groups.

Also included are tweets about the plane that infamously went down in the Hudson River in 2009, the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound, Ellen's infamous Academy Award selfie which became the most retweeted tweet in history and "Je Suis Charlie," tweeted in the wake of the attacks on France's Charlie Hebdo magazine.
