Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Divorcing – Twitter Reacts

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are calling it quits, according to People.com.

The pair married in 2006 and have a six-year-old daughter, Suri

“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” Holmes’ attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, tells People. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

The union between Cruise and Holmes has always been viewed as a curious one, with skeptics citing their age difference (Cruise is 49 and Holmes is 33), Cruise’s erratic behavior leading up to the wedding (including the famous Oprah coach jumping incident) and questions about Cruise’s sexuality.

Cruise had been previously married to actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two kids. This was Holmes’ first marriage.

Update: Tom Cruise has released a statement, saying he is “deeply saddened” by the split. Reportedly the news came as a surprise to Tom, and Katie will be seeking full custody of daughter Suri.
