To celebrate the 144th anniversary of pioneering scientist Marie Curie's birth, Google dedicated its latest creative doodle to her -- giving the famed researcher a spot among other great "doodled" minds like Thomas Edison, "father of genetics" Gregor Mendel and "Vitamin C" scientist Albert Szent-Györgyi.
Several Google employees recently swapped their laptops for carving knives and spent the day whittling six enormous pumpkins with the letters of the search engine's name.
The result? The Halloween Google Doodle, of course.
Friday's Google Doodle should delight not just Disney fans, but anyone with an interest in graphic design.
As an early animator and concept artist for Disney, the late Mary Blair provided the look of Disney classics like 'Alice in Wonderland,' 'Cinderella' and 'Peter Pan.'
Visit the Google homepage today and you might recognize a familiar face: Gumby is in the Google Doodle spotlight. The doodle, which commemorates the 90th birthday of late Gumby creator Art Clokey (he passed in January 2010), is also animated -- clicking on the colored balls of clay reveals the whole Gumby gang, including Pokey the horse and the Blockheads.
Google turned 13 Tuesday, and the search engine celebrated its big day the same way it has every year since 2002 -- with a special anniversary doodle.
