No, it's not the premise of terrible movie you'd catch on TBS at 2am. Come January, Steven Seagal will be working full time as sheriff's deputy in the Texas border county of Hudspeth. This is a thing that is really happening.

According to the sheriff's department, the action hero will be tasked with protecting Hudspeth's border with Mexico from illegal entries, and that the position has nothing to do with Seagal's reality show 'Steven Seagal: Lawman.'

"It became very clear to me that Mr. Seagal is not in this for the celebrity or the publicity," Hudspeth's Sheriff Arvin West said. "He's like the rest of us that live down here -- he has a sincere passion for his country and he wants to do more to help."

Seagal previous forays into law enforcement haven't always gone so well. The 59-year old is currently being sued for $100,000 for a raid he conducted alongside the Maricopa County sherriff's department in Arizona that resulted in the death of a puppy.

People of Hudspeth, lock up your dogs. There's a new deputy sheriff in town.
