May the Force Be With You! ‘Star Wars’ Is Now a Religion All Over the World

Many ‘Star Wars’ fans follow their favorite sci-fi film franchise religiously. Now an increasing number are embracing Luke, Chewbacca and all the rest as their religion.

Buoyed by a Facebook campaign, 15,070 citizens in the Czech Republic listed their religion as ‘Jedi Knight’ on their country’s just-released census report.

While that might seem like a lot, it’s nothing compared to England, where close to 400,000  report that they belong to the Jedi Church, or Australia, where the Jedi flock is 70,000 strong.

The Jedi Church actually has a website, which describes “The Force”  as the central tenet of their religion, and urges its followers to “listen to The Force and beware the Dark Side.”

It’s unclear, however, how many of the Jedi Church’s adherents around the world have actually checked this website. In fact, we suspect the main draw of the Jedi religion is simply the ability to include lightsabers in one’s spiritual life.
