Fishing from a kayak doesn't provide the angler with as sturdy of a base as he would have if he was dropping bait off of a more traditional fishing vessel.

Self described 'hardcore Kayak angler' David Saldamando almost learned this lesson the hard way when he hooked an eight-feet thresher shark off the shore of Santa Barbara, California.

After a half-hour struggle, Saldamando was able to get the shark parallel to his kayak. However, he wasn't able to get the leverage needed to corral the thresher, and, with one mighty buck, the beast pulled Saldamando into the ocean.

Saldamando was able to emerge victorious and unhurt from the underwater struggle ensued. The scary encounter was caught on video, which you can watch below.
