Released in 1997, 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' follows two ditzy high school best friends and former outcasts as they try to reinvent themselves to impress the popular crowd at their high school reunion. Starring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino, the film is a comedic look at growing up, friendship, and staying true to yourself. 16 years later, we take a look back at the cast of the film and see where they are now in a very special reunion of our own.

Then: Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino played Romy White, one-half of Romy and Michele, the blonde underachievers who decide to lie about what they've been doing since they got out of high school so they seem less loser-y. Sorvino actually has a degree in Asian studies.

Now: Sorvino isn't as high profile as she used to be -- she recently appeared in the TV movie 'Finding Mrs. Claus,' and starred in the indie films 'Perfect Sisters' and 'Trade of Innocents.' She's married to fellow actor Christopher Backus, with whom she appeared in the film 'Union Square.'

Then: 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' is based on a stage play titled 'Ladies Room.' Kudrow, best known for her role on 'Friends,' reprised her role from the play in the film as Michele. The special glue formula that Michele spouts off in the dream sequence was totally improvised by Kudrow on the spot. Like Sorvino, Kudrow is nothing like her onscreen counterpart -- she has a degree in biology.

Now: Since 2011, Kudrow has starred in the web series 'Web Therapy,' which she also writes and produces. She will appear in the upcoming fourth season of the hit show 'Scandal,' and has a role in the Seth Rogen/Zac Efron comedy 'Neighbors.'

Then: Comedian Janeane Garofalo played Heather Mooney, the chain-smoking, sarcastic pessimist and kinda-sorta friend of Romy and Michele.

Now: Garofalo continues to perform stand-up, and has appeared in the films 'Southland Tales' and 'The Ten.' She lent her voice to the Pixar movie 'Ratatouille' alongside fellow comedian Patton Oswalt. Garofalo was also a regular on the short-lived 'Criminal Minds' spin-off, 'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.'

Then: 'The Practice' star Camryn Manheim played the impossibly perky and over-eager Toby Walters, always leading the charge at school functions. She was the total inverse of Heather Mooney.

Now: Manheim had recurring roles on the shows 'Ghost Whisperer' and 'Harry's Law,' and recently appeared in the films 'The Hot Flashes' and 'The Pregnancy Pact.'

Alan Cumming, Sandy Frink

Then: Alan Cumming played Sandy Frink, the dorky guy who hangs out with Toby and has an unrequited crush on Michele. He grows up to be quite successful thanks to his invention of a special kind of rubber.

Now: Cumming has a recurring role on the network drama 'The Good Wife,' and appears on Lisa Kudrow's web series, 'Web Therapy.' He is also the voice of Gutsy Smurf in the 'Smurfs' movies. In addition to acting on screens big and small, Cumming is a talented stage actor, and won a Tony award in 1998 for his role in the revival of 'Cabaret.'

Julia Campbell, Christie Masters

Then: Julia Campbell played Christie Masters, the leader of the mean popular girls who torment Romy and Michele all through high school, notably mocking Romy for her back brace. Campbell actually had to wear a back brace as a young girl.

Now: Campbell reunited with Kudrow for an episode of 'Friends' in 2000, and has since appeared on several shows, including 'Dexter,' 'Lie to Me,' and 'Criminal Minds.' She is married to Jay Karnes, star of 'The Shield' -- Campbell appeared in the final episode of that series.

Then: Prior to appear in 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' as Christie's mean girl friend Kelly, Kristin Bauer notably portrayed Gillian (aka "Man Hands") in a 1996 episode of 'Seinfeld.'

Now: Bauer is best known for playing Pam on the HBO series 'True Blood.' She also portrays Maleficent on 'Once Upon a Time' and had a recurring role on 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager.'

Then: Elaine Hendrix played Lisa Luder, the only one of Christie's friends who questions their torment of Romy and Michele, and ends up defending the duo at the high school reunion.

Now: Like Campbell, Hendrix also went on to reunite with Kudrow in an episode of 'Friends,' and also like Campbell, she appeared in an episode of 'Criminal Minds.' She had recurring roles on 'Joan of Arcadia' and the revamped '90210' TV series, and has guest-starred on 'Rules of Engagement' and 'The Mentalist.'

Then: In 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion,' Vincent Ventresca played Billy Christensen, Christie's popular boyfriend and the object of Romy's unrequited affection. Prior to starring in the film, Ventresca appeared in two episodes of 'Friends' as "Fun Bobby."

Now: Ventresca had recurring roles on the shows 'The Invisible Man' and 'Complete Savages,' and has guest-starred on 'The Mentalist,' 'Dollhouse,' and 'CSI.'

Then: Justin Theroux was just getting his career off the ground when he starred in 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' as Clarence the Cowboy, the quiet stranger who torments Heather Mooney by flicking cigarettes near her when she asks for a lighter -- turns out he's just too shy to say anything.

Now: Theroux wrote 'Tropic Thunder,' 'Iron Man 2,' and 'Rock of Ages,' and is currently working on the script for 'Zoolander 2.' He has also appeared in the films 'Wanderlust,' 'The Ten' (with Janeane Garofalo), and 'Your Highness.' Theroux is currently engaged to his 'Wanderlust' co-star Jennifer Aniston.
