Last month, Reddit user Sean O’Connor turned to the online community with a request. His 47-year-old uncle Scott Widak, who has down syndrome, had been diagnosed with a terminal liver disease. One of Scott's favorite things to do is open mail, so Sean wanted to know if his fellow Redditors would do him a solid and send letters to his uncle.

Although the PO Box Sean left for Scott was removed after four hours due to Reddit's policy on personal information, that was plenty of time for Redditors, who are no strangers to good deeds, to heed his call.

Hundreds of letters from everywhere from Sweden to Mexico have poured in. Scott happily opens them in his mother's house, where he is getting hospice care.

In addition to the kind words, Sony Entertainment sent Scott a collection of Johnny Cash CDs and DVDs when they heard he was a fan of the "Man in Black."

"The mail that’s arrived has all been extremely positive and thoughtful," Sean explained. "My family and I are amazed at how so many strangers could come together for a random act of kindness."
