Awkward! Newspaper Confuses Puerto Rican Flag With Cuban Flag

There are some similarities between Puerto Rico and Cuba. They are both Caribbean islands with Spanish-speaking population. But, as everybody should know, Puerto Rico is actually part of the United States, whereas Cuba has been our sworn enemy for over 50 years.

Which is why it is not a good idea to mix the two islands up. However, that’s exactly what the New York Daily News did, displaying a Cuban Flag in a promotional advertisement they did for the Puerto Rican Day parade featuring New York Giant Victor Cruz, who is of Puerto Rican descent.

It’s true that the two flags look quite a bit alike. In fact, if not for the red and the blue parts on the flags being reversed they would more or less be the same. And, apparently, the Daily News is using the same hapless fact checkers employed by the Romney campaign. Check out what the Puerto Rican flag is supposed to look like below.
