Subscribe to TheFW on

Have you ever wondered about the origins of ‘The Simpsons‘ and what inspired the creation of America’s favorite dysfunctional family? Now you can find out in this old video from 1969.

In ‘The Story,’ a young Matt Groening, creator of ‘The Simpsons,’ tells a tale about zoo animals to his youngest sister, Maggie. His sister Lisa co-stars with him in the video, which was shot by their father, Homer Groening. Are you starting to see any similarities? While the video might not be as wacky as the usual ‘Simpsons’ fare, you can now see the inspiration for one of the craziest families to ever hit television screens.

Watch the video above and meet the kids who would inspire Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson!
