Meerkats have been studied by humans for more than two decades. Their unique society and behavior is of intense interest to biologists and animal behaviorists. They're also cute and unlikely to kill you, which are two big pluses.

The tradeoff is that they've gotten a little...used to humans. How used to them? See for yourself.

The meerkats are so habituated to humans they just crawl all over them, using them as towers to spy for predators and for shade. The humans, for their part, obviously take it in stride; the cuddly little guys mean well, after all. Just as long as they don't poop on anybody, they'll be fine.
