Downy has brought back Mean Joe Greene, a legend of Super Bowl ads past, to star in its Super Bowl 2012 commercial for its Unstoppable In-Wash Scent Booster.

Greene appeared in a 1979 Coke ad that is considered to be one of most memorable in Super Bowl history. In the famous spot, the then-Pittsburgh Steeler star became considerably less mean when a little boy offered him a coke.

In the 2012 version, an older Greene is again walking off the field and into the locker room. But instead of being approached by a youngster, it's comedienne Amy Sedaris who grabs his attention.

Playing off the fact that Downy Unstoppables look a bit like a bottle of soda, Sedaris offers the cleaning product to Greene. After first refusing the bottle, Greene is eventually convinced to accept it. For a moment, it looks like he's going to drink it, like he did the Coke in the original ad.

Fortunately he doesn't, and just sniffs its pleasant scent. To thank Sedaris, he tosses her his game worn jersey. Let's just say the comedienne doesn't react the way the plucky kid did back in the original.
