Hollywood Park, Texas, Mayor Bill Bohlke was killed on Monday during an apparent attack by a 500-pound male donkey on his ranch in Atascosa County, according to police. First there were attacks by kangaroos, dolphins, raccoons and now donkeys. Not to make light of this terribly tragic story, but did we do something to make you angry, animal kingdom?

Chief Deputy David Soward of the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office couldn't comment on the specific nature of the attack, but he said a large stud donkey was most likely responsible given physical evidence.

“They can become very aggressive, very mean, sometimes triggered by a female in heat,” Soward said. “We'll probably never know what triggered it, but it was evident that this particular donkey was involved, based on the evidence at the scene and what we saw on this donkey.”

Bohlke was a 65-year-old Air Force veteran and experienced rancher who was recently elected to office in May. A formal cause of death is still pending. Meanwhile, the donkey, who has a history of aggression, remains on the ranch while the Bohlke family decides its fate.
