If there’s anything the internet loves, it’s a creative marriage proposal. Now that the best ones end up on YouTube for all to see, it has become harder and harder to come up with a truly unique proposal. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Israeli entrepreneur Guy Malachi accepted that challenge and passed with flying colors when he asked his girlfriend Eva to marry him. Using his hacking skills, Malachi wrote code that took over her Facebook account and prompted her to confirm her relationship status. Whatever menu option was chosen, “married” came up on her screen.

The next screen had pictures of a random selection of her Facebook friends and asked “who is the lucky guy.” But that screen was quickly replaced by a photo of Malachi, with the text “maybe it’s this Guy.”

Next came a photo of Malachi holding a ring.

‘I threw around a few ideas, I knew I wanted to surprise her out of the blue, I wanted to do something that required investment, but I didn’t want it to be too grandiose (we’re both not into those kinds of things),” Malachi said of the proposal. According to to the 36-year-old, it took him about a week to write the code.

As for Eva’s reaction, “She was floored,” said Malachi. “She had no idea till [the end] what was going on – luckily for me, she said yes!”
