Does This Crab Look Like Jesus or Osama Bin Laden?

Jesus Crab
John Canfield

It wasn’t until the Canfield family returned home from their crabbing trip near Hat Island last weekend that they realized this was no ordinary crabbing trip. To the contrary, they potentially found the face of two very influential people (in different ways, of course) on the underside of one of their captives —  Jesus and Osama Bin Laden.

Bizarrely, although both these figures are male, they chose to present themselves on a female crab. And so, these law-abiding citizens duly threw the female crab back into the water. Fortunately, they filmed their whole crabbing experience and so we have a lovely still image of said crab. Unfortunately though for the sceptics out there, this means there is no crab available to study. So yes, this could’ve been drawn on with a Sharpie for all we know.

But assuming the Canfields, in their own words, are indeed “not that sophisticated” to come up with a hoax, here we have presented before us a crucial question: Is this a Jesus Crab or an Osama Crab? Because if it’s an Osama Crab, what is the message behind its appearance?

Researchers at Northwestern University led by Joel Voss say the human brain is wired to look for familiarity and meaning in the most abstract squiggles. So, we group random squiggles into things that are familiar and meaningful to us. To those who stand on the side of the Osama Crab… well, perhaps this is slightly worrying!

For strict Jesutarians though (those who are only allowed to eat foods that have Jesus emblazoned on it), this represents a unique gustatory experience. If we had to hazard a guess, they probably live off toasted sandwiches made in that Grilled Cheesus Sandwich Press.

Which do you think the crab looks more like, Jesus or Osama? Vote below in our poll. Also, what about these two for our next celeb look-alikes?
