Jerk Proposes to Woman — During Someone Else’s Wedding (But It’s Not What You Think)
UPDATE: Amidst a lot of hullabaloo, it appears as if the bride was in on the proposal. The bride and the newly-engaged woman are sisters, with the engaged woman telling the New York Daily News, “My fiancé told her he didn’t want to ruin their day and she insisted it would only make it better!”
ORIGINAL STORY: It’s common knowledge — you don’t do ANYTHING to steal a bride’s thunder on her wedding day.
This guy must’ve been home from school on the day that lesson was taught because he pulled off one of the most uncool things you can do when he got on bended knee and popped the question at a wedding, right in front of the bride and groom.
The photo recently appeared on Reddit with the caption “Any girl’s wedding nightmare” and the comments seem to share the sentiment that hogging the attention on someone else’s big day is just something you don’t do.
The bride may be showing a great deal of class by smiling, but you get the feeling that inside she’s doing everything in her power to keep down her inner Bridezilla (who, in this instance, has every right to rear her ugly head).
And you also get the sense the groom is thinking to himself, “There’s no way my wife is going to let me be friends with him anymore. I hope she doesn’t talk about this throughout the entire honeymoon.”
So, yes, this was not proper etiquette. About the only way this could’ve gone worse would’ve been if the bridesmaid stood up to give her speech only to announce she was pregnant or if the bride found her new husband making out with her sister in a broom closet.
What do you think? Was this proposal out of line? Should the bride have said something? Would you end your friendship if someone did this to you?
