Is This The Origin Of Homer Simpson?

In the “weird coincidences” file, we’ve got this cartoon, which was first published in 1949 in a magazine in Iceland. Yeah, they look fairly similar… but wait until you see the whole cartoon.

Here it is, in all its glory:

If you were wondering, the caption translates out to “The ax is too sharp.”

For contrast, here’s Homer in a similar position:

There are, of course, minor differences. This character has three hairs and Homer has two. The noses are different. And while Homer does have a fondness for cigars, he rarely smokes onscreen.

Still, it’s a strange coincidence, and fun to imagine.
