High Schooler Changes Fellow Student’s Name in Yearbook to Lewd Term, Gets Busted

High Schooler Busted After Changing Fellow Student's Name in Yearbook
Columbia Police Dept.

Missouri high school student Kaitlyn Booth probably thought she was pulling off the mother of all pranks when she changed a fellow student’s last name to an offensive term in the school’s yearbook, but now the joke’s on her. Booth has been arrested and could be charged with a felony.

Booth allegedly changed the last name of student Raigan Mastain to “masturbate” in approximately 720 yearbooks. According to Hickman High School, it took the staff about 12 hours to go through the yearbooks and affix stickers with Mastain’s correct name.

Mastain said she and Booth both worked on the yearbook together, but she wasn’t aware of any bad blood between them. Regardless, Mastain said she “wasn’t devastated” by the joke. In fact, she thought it was dumb.

“When you’re in high school, you do stuff that is not necessarily the smartest, and this was an example of that,” said Mastain. “I was kind of annoyed. It was stupid, but I wasn’t that upset.”

Booth was arrested on May 14 and could be charged with first-degree property damage and harassment. Still, Mastain doesn’t want to see Booth’s life ruined by the prank.

“What she did wasn’t right, but I don’t think it should affect her for the rest of her life,” she said.

As of yesterday, no charges have been filed against Booth, but Assistant Boone County prosecutor Spencer Bartlett said the case is still being reviewed.

What do you think? Should they throw the (year) book at Booth? Or has she been humiliated enough?
