A couple in Charleston, South Carolina have their pooch to thank for tipping them off to the fact their babysitter was abusing their son. Let's give this dog a big round of a-paws.

Benjamin Jordan noticed their pup would get mean whenever babysitter Alexis Khan, 22, came to their house to take care of their seven-month-old son:

About five months into her being our babysitter, we started to notice that our dog was very protective of our son when she would come in the door. He was very aggressive towards her and a few times we actually had to physically restrain our dog from going towards her."

Sensing something was wrong, Benjamin and his wife, Hope, decided to hide an iPhone under a couch to record Khan. Benjamin said that's when they discovered what Khan was doing. "It started with cussing," he said. "Then you hear slap noises and his crying changes from a distress cry to a pain cry. I just wanted to reach through the audio tape, go back in time and just grab him up."

Khan confessed and has been sentenced to serve between one and three years in prison and will appear on a child abuse registry, ending her career working with kids.

Benjamin said the canine is really the hero, saying, "Had our dog not alerted us to the trouble, had my wife's instincts not said we need to make something happen, it could have been Finn that was killed by the babysitter. You never know."

Finn, by the way, is healthy and shows no signs of any problems related to the abuse. And his parents should give the pooch an extra serving of kibble tonight.
