Remaking Lionel Richie's 1984 smash hit "Hello' is a tricky endeavor, as both the tune and the accompanying video are the embodiment of a certain kind of schmaltz-y '80s perfection.

However, this clever supercut from Matthijs Vlot is able to rise to that challenge by using clips of classic movie characters played by George Clooney, Woody Allen, Arnold Schwarzenegger and others to voice the lyrics to 'Hello,' giving Richie's melodramatic ode to unrequited love the gravitas it requires.

Checkout Vlot's deft editing -- as well as the timeless song and video that inspired it all -- below.
