Harry Belafonte has been working hard to promote his new memoir 'My Song.' Perhaps a little too hard.

The 84-year-old legend was scheduled to do an early morning interview with KBAK News in Bakersfield, CA. But when the camera cut to Belafonte, who was in a New York studio, he appeared to be fast asleep.

The anchors tried and failed to wake Belafonte up with calls of "daylight come" and "day-o" -- both lyrics from 'The Banana Boat Song,' which Belafonte is famous for performing.

According to Belafonte's rep, Belafonte wasn't asleep but was instead "meditating," and his earpiece had malfunctioned so he wasn't aware that the interview had begun.
