Guilt-Ridden Mother Seeks Advice Because Her Daughter Is Ugly
Every mother thinks her children are beautiful. Well, almost every mother.
A woman on Reddit sparked a rather surprising dialogue when she posted a long message asking users to help her because she and her husband have a 9-year-old daughter who is not physically appealing.
Yes, a mother said this about her own flesh and blood, which is pretty much the last thing you’d ever expect any mom ever to say about her kids.
To be fair, the woman comes right out and admits she knows what she’s writing is terrible:
As our daughter matures, and believe me, I hate myself for saying this, please don’t lambast me, it just is a logical fact, she’s very physically unattractive.
…But our daughter, though physically normal, honestly looks like she has some sort of disability. So much so we had her tested. She doesn’t.
…I feel beyond awful that I feel this way. But, because she is such a wonderful person inside, it hurts me the more that her peers won’t see past her physical appearance. And, may god strike me dead for saying this, I’d almost rather she DID have a disability or chromosomal disorder. Then there would be an explanation for the way she looks other than just “bad genetic luck”.
…Just… please don’t hate me. I hate myself enough as it is. I just want to help my daughter grow to be a healthy, happy young woman, and not let her appearance get in the way of letting the world know what a wonderful person she is.
The mother, who gives examples of how kind-hearted her daughter is in her post, seems lost and you can sense the burden of guilt she’s carrying.
What do you think? Is it fair for a mother to ever admit this? Is she overreacting since her daughter is only 9 years old? Is she wrong or is she a good mother because she sees a real problem developing and wants help?
