George Takei Set to Guest Star in Archie Comics’ ‘Kevin Keller’ Series
The fictional town of Riverdale has seen many real-life famous celebrities give the place a visit. Coming this November with the release of ‘Kevin Keller’ #6 is the man Hikaru Sulu himself — George Takei! For those who haven’t read Archie Comics in a while, Kevin Keller is the first openly gay character. Conveniently enough, Takei is openly gay too.
The decades-old Archie Comics have been trying to keep up with trends, and Kevin Keller even married his African-American partner in an issue earlier this year. But what a way to appease multiple fan bases — Takei is still one of the most popular ‘Star Trek’ actors and a pop-culture icon.
No word on what the story arc will be, but the George Takei issue was written and drawn by Dan Parent who happened to meet Takei at a comic convention. When Parent pitched the idea of Kevin Keller meeting his life long hero, Takei could not say no. The star even Tweeted the big news to his thousands of followers:
Here’s a sneak peak of what I look like in the upcoming KEVIN KELLER comic. It’s great kids get to see gay role models. twitter.com/GeorgeTakei/st…
