They say social media is a great way to get a job. It’s also a great way to lose one.

A man in Toronto named Sunith Baheerathan made the boneheaded mistake of going on Twitter and asking his followers if someone could bring some pot to him at Mr. Lube, where he worked as a mechanic. Unfortunately for Baheerathan, local police saw his tweet and responded.

The police’s comments were retweeted nearly 4,000 times and when all was said and done Sunith Baheerathan was fired. He tried to explain his actions on Twitter to no avail by saying he was only kidding and that he was disappointed the cops weren't focusing on more dangerous criminals. He may have sensed he was fighting a losing battle because he eventually deleted his account.

Let’s hope Baheerathan exercises a little more caution when he starts networking on LinkedIn in the hopes of getting some work and the only smoke he deals with on the job come from overheated cars.
