Watch Floppy Drives Play the ‘Ghostbusters’ Theme

Given today’s digital storage devices, we can’t imagine anyone has much use for floppy disk drives anymore. But YouTube user MrSolidSnake745 has found an exciting new application for the clunky devices by turning them into a musical instrument. And they play the ‘Ghostbusters’ theme no less. Ingenious!

Anyone who’s ever used a floppy drive knows they’re prone to horrible beeping and grinding noises. Well, MrSolidSnake745 puts that terrible racket to good use by linking eight drives and having them play the theme from the classic 1984 movie.

The drives get off to a shaky start, but they quickly launch into the instantly-recognizable song and continue playing for almost four minutes. And we’re not ashamed to admit we appreciatively bobbed our heads for most of that time. Have these musical floppy drives met the drumming washing machine yet?
