A Texas jewelry store is taking the concept of "shotgun wedding" quite literally.

Thacker Jewelry, located in Lubbock, is currently holding its third annual Shotgun Wedding Sale, in which anyone who coughs up at least $2,000 for an engagement ring will get a gift certificate for a gun at a nearby gun shop, LSG Tactical Arms.

This marks the third year Thacker Jewelry is holding the sale. Owner Joe Thacker says it's merely a way to drum up business in a pleasant manner. "The idea, of course, is the word play and the old shotgun wedding," he said. "Not going back to the negative connotation playing off of that and it's been a lot of fun. We had a lot of people participate and this year we've even gotten into it more,"

While the promotion may surprise some people, LSG Tactical Arms manager Steve Burns says it makes sense for people in the Lone Star State. "It's something that's very natural for most Texans," he said. "Most guys grew up hunting or at least exposed to hunting if not by their family, but by their friends, or social groups. So it's something that's pretty natural for all of us."

There is some brushback about the deal, but Thacker says it's nothing too bad. "We get a few people that have a bit of negative attitude about it," Thacker said. "But once we explain it, most people just laugh and say, 'It makes sense.'"

The sale runs until October 29. About three dozen rings were sold last year and Thacker says he expects a lot more to go off the shelves this time around.
