This pooch didn't give birth to a litter. She gave birth to the number of students in a kindergarten class.

Stella, a 3-year-old Maremma Sheepdog on a farm in Napa, Calif., recently welcomed 17 puppies, a record for her breed and the most ever in the state (the largest litter of puppies ever delivered is 24, so Stella, despite her populous offspring, was still well short).

All of the puppies are expected to perform farm work around the state, so don't worry about them finding a good home.

As for Stella, well, let's hope she gets a well-earned Mother's Day card each year. She certainly deserves it.

There's no word on the father, but they really ought to track him down to make sure he sends a check every month. No one likes a deadbeat dad, right?
