There is a timeless quality to the Disney universe, a point which gets driven home in this amazing footage from Disneyland's Canon in 1957.

The stock film, which was shot when the park was less than two years, was recently transferred to video by the folks at the Disney History Institute. (You can learn more about the process here.)

It may have been more than 50 years ago, but much of the footage doesn't look all that different than what you would see in the California theme park today.

But one thing you do really notice is the sparser crowds. There are no long lines and the teacup ride has multiple empty seats. That's certainly not going to happen in 2012. So maybe they really were the good old days.
