Gordon Yeager, 94, and his wife Norma, 90, were married for 72 years. And on Wednesday of last week, the Des Moines, Iowa couple were in a terrible car accident that took both their lives.

But they didn't die on the scene -- they died in side-by-side hospital beds, holding hands, exactly one hour apart.

It's okay. You can cry. We sure did.

The couple's son, Dennis, described what happened after his father passed away at 3:38 p.m:

"I couldn't figure out what was going on because the heart monitor was still going ... But we were like, he isn't breathing. How does he still have a heart beat? The nurse checked and said that's because they were holding hands and it's going through them ... They were still getting her heartbeat through him," Dennis said.

And precisely one hour later, at 4:48 p.m., Norma joined her husband in the Great Beyond.

"Neither one of them would've wanted to be without [the] other," the couple's daughter, Donna Sheets, said. "We were very blessed, honestly, that they went this way."

At their funeral on Monday, Norma and Gordon held hands in their casket, with their family saying that after they're cremated, the loving couple's ashes will be mixed together.

Care for a tissue? Also, you should call your grandparents.
