Clerk Won’t Grant Same-Sex Couples Marriage Licenses (Again)

A county clerk in Kentucky has once again found herself in the center of a storm for her refusal to give marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Kim Davis, a clerk in Rowan County, tried to defend her actions when a pair of same-sex couples walked into her office on Tuesday with camera crews in tow.

Davis, who previously made headlines for not giving the licenses, continued to hold firm in her stance. When asked under whose authority she could do that, she said, “Under God’s authority.”

The county sheriff eventually showed up, but did not arrest anyone. He said some people were calling for everyone to be cuffed for disorderly conduct.

The ACLU filed a motion seeking to have Davis held for contempt for not issuing any licenses. There will be a hearing on the matter on Thursday.
