Thieves Make Off With 18 Tons of Chocolate

scubadive67, Flickr

Call it the great chocolate caper…

A tractor trailer from Slovakia rolled up to a chocolate factory in Bludenz, Austria and picked up eighteen tons of chocolate that were to be delivered to the Czech Republic. When the order never arrived the factory contacted the authorities, who were able to determine that the license and papers presented by the Slovak driver were counterfeit.

The thirty-three pallets of milk chocolate remain at large. Not much is known about what kind of market there is for stolen chocolate, but what we do know is that the haul is equivalent to a little over 370,000 standard sized Hershey bars.

Of course, that’s assuming the thieves aren’t planning on going all-out ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and creating a river of sweet stuff — a tempting option after a chocolate theft of this magnitude.
