It's getting to the point where we will one day think about buying something and it will show up on our doorstep a minute later.

Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but the future of shopping took another leap forward Sunday when Amazon unveiled its newest innovation.

The online behemoth has gone public with a prototype for Amazon Prime Air, a drone service which will deliver packages in 30 minutes or less.

Prime Air is unveiled at the beginning of the holiday shopping season, but don't expect to utilize before Saint Nick goes on his gift-giving route. Amazon says, "Putting Prime Air into service will take some time, but we will deploy when we have the regulatory support needed to realize our vision."

Amazon also says, "We have more than a dozen prototypes that we’ve developed in our research and development labs. The look and characteristics of the vehicles will evolve over time."

There are also some restrictions customers should know. The drones will clock in at 55 pounds and can haul packages topping out at five pounds.
