The exhibit, titled 'Omote 3D Shashin Kan,' runs from November 24th, 2012 to January 15th, 2013. The figurines cost $260-$500 per person but a discount is offered to pairs and groups.

The process works like this: you have to stay completely still for up to at least 15 minutes while they take your picture. It's also recommended that you wear simple, solid-colored clothing, so nothing wild like fake fur or leopard prints. After all, you wouldn't want your figurine immortalized wearing a fashion faux pas, right?

Once the images are captured, it takes 'PARTY' about a month to create the figurines and send them your way. You get a choice of three sizes, ranging from 10cm to 20cm. For an idea of the figurine scale, check out the pictures below:

While the figurines may not be useful unless you're into novelty decor or you want realistic looking figures for the top of your wedding cake, this is a nifty little invention. Also, we can't help but wonder if one day in the future we'll have figurine family portraits that replace the awkwardly photographed ones that we all know and hate.
